Abstract
The project will examine the organizational structure of the ministerial setting- Health Insurance Plan (HIP) Health Plan of New York- that is one of the largest Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) in New York and demonstrate how the establishment of an educational program on spirituality and medicine can be developed in the most unique and unprecedented setting. This educational program continues to provide training and resources that equips medical practitioners, specifically within the HIP network, to integrate spirituality in their practice whereby they will be able to acknowledge and have a deeper understanding and appreciation of the role of spirituality in medical care and to utilize that knowledge in their practice. This project included the organization of the interdisciplinary team and the establishment of the following programs and initiatives: annual Continuing Medical Education (CME) symposium, creation of the Medical Reference Manual on Religious Diversity continuing education curriculum, and the development of a website as well as the dissemination of the information to the entire medical community.
